Key Stage 2
(Years 3-6)

A continued emphasis is placed on reading development, ensuring pupils become fluent, confident readers with strong comprehension skills. Pupils are encouraged to read widely across a range of texts to develop vocabulary, understanding and a love of reading, while writing and mathematical skills are further strengthened through purposeful learning across the curriculum.

Teaching in Key Stage 2 promotes curiosity, critical thinking and collaboration. Lessons are carefully planned to challenge pupils and support them in applying their knowledge across subjects. Through engaging learning experiences, cross-curricular links and opportunities for discussion and independent work, pupils develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in their learning and prepare for the transition to secondary education.

In Year 6, pupils work towards the Key Stage 2 SATs assessments in reading, mathematics and grammar, punctuation and spelling, which assess their understanding of the core curriculum. The Key Stage 2 phase also focuses on preparing pupils to be secondary ready, equipping them with the academic knowledge, study skills, resilience and confidence needed for a successful transition to secondary education.
