(Years 12-13)

Students typically study a minimum of two A Level subjects alongside one additional Level 3 qualification, with most students following a programme of three courses in total. These courses are selected based on students’ GCSE performance, interests and future aspirations, ensuring that students are placed on programmes where they are most likely to succeed. In some circumstances, students may follow a programme of two subjects only, depending on their individual needs or the suitability of available courses.

The Sixth Form aims to offer a range of A Level and Level 3 qualifications, prioritising subjects that support progression to university and wider career pathways. These may include subjects commonly recognised as facilitating subjects, such as Mathematics, the Sciences, Geography and English, which are valued by universities and allow students to progress into a wide range of higher education courses. An options booklet is developed each academic year for the following academic year providing details on the subject offering.

Some courses may be delivered through distance learning, allowing students to access subjects that may not be available through direct classroom teaching. Distance learning requires a high level of independence and commitment, as it involves a significant amount of self-directed study, supported by online tutors and monitored by the school. Students are encouraged to carefully consider their ability to manage independent learning before selecting this option.

Through a combination of advanced academic study, independent learning and career-focused guidance, Key Stage 5 prepares students to successfully progress into higher education, further training or employment, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and confidence required for the next stage of their lives.
