Harpers Agriculture Centre

Harpers

The Harpers Agricultural Centre at Francis Plain, was officially opened on November 9, 1988, by Governor Robert Stimson. It was established to provide agricultural training in conjunction with the new Prince Andrew School (now St Helena Secondary School).

The Agriculture course provides students with a practical and realistic introduction to farming and land-based studies, rooted firmly in the local context of St Helena. Students learn how food is produced, how land is managed sustainably and how agriculture supports the local economy and community. Learning takes place through a balance of classroom-based theory and extensive hands-on practical work.

Students are based at the Harpers Agricultural Centre, a modern and well-equipped facility surrounded by farmland. Each student maintains their own garden plot and gains experience of both protected farming (polytunnels) and open-field farming, alongside opportunities to work with local farmers.

What You Will Study

  • Types of agriculture on St Helena
